Posted on June 1, 2012At 9 years old, Ri-yan Dolan, aka DJ BABYCHINO, is the world’s youngest professional DJ. Originally from Austin, Texas, DJ BABYCHINO relocated to Las Vegas with his family and DJs at nightclubs, events for children, trade shows, lifestyle events and celebrity parties. While he specializes in hip hop, he plays every type of music and is also learning how to video mix. Read on and get to know more about this young talent.
1. How did you get started as a DJ?
I started out break dancing and going to all different types of dance events — that’s where I saw a DJ for the first time. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a DJ because people don’t do anything until the music starts. I DJ all types of events from clubs to community events and parties to roller-skating rinks. DJing has allowed me to travel to Kentucky, Atlanta, Miami, N.Y. (for the Rachel Ray Show), New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, Laredo, Utah, Reno, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Fresno, Arizona and Curacao.
2. What grade are you in?
I am a fourth-grade student who is home-schooled. My mom helps me with my classwork and I am able to get everything done even if I’m traveling.
3. What lighting fixtures are included in your setup?
Right now I don’t have a special set of lighting.
4. What is your favorite fixture and why?
I would like something similar to the CHAUVET® booth setup at MBLV16.
5. Best advice you can give someone just getting started in the DJ industry?
The best advice I can give is to invest in a MacBook — they don’t crash.
6. What are your top three most requested songs?
The songs I get asked to play the most are “The Motto” by Drake and Lil Wayne, “Rack City” by Tyga and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj.
