DJ Profile: Instant Replay II Mobile Disco
Posted on March 1, 2013Pete Hedges, who goes by the stage name Instant Replay II Mobile Disco, is originally from Oxford, England and has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He currently lives in Swindon and caters to Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire. Read on and get to know more about him.
1. How and when did you get started as a DJ?
I began DJing in 1978 after a friend asked if I had any music he could borrow. I gave him a list and he said, “Wow, you could run a disco with this.” The rest, as they say, is history, and I never looked back. We specialize in a variety of events including: weddings, birthdays, corporate functions and Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties.
2. Is this a full-time job or something you do on the side?
For the past 15 years, I’ve worked full time in the Customer Care (support) department for a software company located in Newbury. However, DJing is more than a hobby. It’s not a full time job, but I approach it that manner and the show is more professional. The IT side helps me create and manage my own web site, while the Customer Care side brings me into contact with new customers every day.
3. What fixtures are included in your setup?
Our light show is based around the MotionDrape LED curtain. To enhance the effects, two Mega Trix effect lights and two Hurricane 700 fog machines complement the LED drape.
4. What is your favorite fixture and why?
MotionDrape LED is without a doubt my favourite fixture because it adds that special something and gives a sense of professionalism to the show. It’s the centerpiece of the light show and is reliable, impressive, and easy to setup and use.
5. Best advice you can give someone just getting started in the DJ industry?
My best advice is to make sure your gear is reliable and you are reliable. Above all else, make sure you put the customer first. Our motto is, “Make your function a night to remember and relive the memories forever.” For you it might be “just another gig,” but for the customer, it’s their big night. Help them enjoy themselves by playing what they want to hear and leaving them wanting more.
6. What are your top three most requested songs?
My top three most requested songs right now are: “We Found Love,” by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, “Call Me Maybe,” by Carly Rae Jepsen and “Moves Like Jagger,” by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera. For party songs, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” by Whitney Houston, “I will Survive,” by Gloria Gaynor and “Dancing Queen,” by Abba.
